In addition to his responsibilities as Director of the Office of Mission Effectiveness, Fr. Arthur offers canonical advice to the Provincial and General Council. Fluent in English, Spanish and Italian, he also serves as a translator for Province-wide meetings and publications.
Fr. Arthur Carrillo was born in Los Angeles, California in 1944. One of nine children, the family’s roots are grounded firmly in the soils of Chihuahua, Mexico. Fr. Arthur entered the Passionist Seminary in 1957 as a high school freshman, professed vows in 1963, and was ordained a priest on May 16, 1970. Fr. Arthur remembers being drawn to the Passionist way of life centered around community and a core of prayer and preaching.
His ministries have revolved around the Passionist preaching apostolate, both in retreat centers and in parish renewal programs across the country. Besides his seminary theological studies, Fr. Arthur has a licentiate degree in Canon Law from Catholic University.
In 1994, Fr. Arthur was elected to the Passionist Congregation’s General Council in Rome, where be served for six years with Passionists from all over the world. During this time, one of his primary responsibilities was as liaison to the Passionist Missionaries in Africa. He remained in Rome after this service to act as director of the Congregation’s Communication Office. Upon his return to the States, Fr. Arthur assumed the responsibilities of local leader for the Passionist Community in Detroit.
In 2005, Fr. Arthur was asked to take over for Fr. Luke Connolly as head of the Mission Office, which works with the dioceses of the United States in mission education and the solicitation of funds to help support Passionist mission efforts around the globe. Fr. Arthur is also actively involved in the formation programs for laity associated with the Passionists in the United States. As such, he has conducted numerous pilgrimages to Passionist sites of importance in Italy.
Fr. Arthur derives great inspiration from preaching parish missions and leading retreats for priests, religious and lay groups. He offers canonical advice to the Provincial and General Council. As Fr. Arthur works in English, Spanish and Italian, he serves as a translator for Province-wide meetings and publications. He currently serves as the local superior of the Houston Holy Name Passionist Community.
