Dear Retreatants and Friends,
We hope and pray that your summer is being a source of rest and refreshment as we prepare for the coming year of school and daily work.
Let us explain some changes that are going on here at Christ the King. We have a new leadership team. Fr. Don Webber, C.P., Passionist Provincial Superior, and the Board of Directors of Christ the King, have appointed Ken Macdonald as the Chief Administrative Officer to oversee the entire operation of Christ the King. Fr. Ronan Newbold, C.P. has been appointed the Retreat Director and is responsible for all of the pastoral and sacramental duties associated with the Retreat Center. Finally, Nora Muir is the new Retreat Center Administrator, effective July 9. Nora will manage all of the administrative activity, personnel issues, and oversee all of the business practices of Christ the King. This arrangement will enable each of the three to do their work more thoroughly and serve our retreatants and hosted groups better.
Secondly, our retreat theme for this year of 2012-2013 is, "The Year of Faith, Fiftieth Anniversary of the Second Vatican Council, Celebrating the Out-pouring of the Holy Spirit in our Time." That is quite a long theme, but it could not come at a better time in our church’s history when we see so many different ways of thinking about just exactly what our Roman Catholic faith really is today. Our preaching team hopes to help all of you understand what Pope John XXIII had in mind when he "opened the windows to let some fresh air in" for all of "the people of God." Pope Benedict has declared "The Year of Faith" to begin October 1, 2012.
"Faith, precisely because it is a free act, also demands social responsibility for what one believes. The Church on the day of Pentecost demonstrates with utter clarity this public dimension of believing and proclaiming one’s faith fearlessly to every person. It is the gift of the Holy Spirit that makes us fit for mission and strengthens our witness, making it frank and courageous."
Motu Proprio - Year of Faith, Section 10
We look forward to having you with us during your retreat weekend or mid-week retreat. May God bless you and your families.
