Mater Dolorosa Passionist Retreat Center, located in the serene foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, is one of those special places where solitude and prayer are daily occurrences. Not only does one find the amazing natural beauty of the mountains above and the valley below, but there is also wonderful religious art, beautifully constructed Stations of the Cross, the Garden of Seven Sorrows, and many other special and quaint spots for personal prayer, meditation, and relaxation to be enjoyed, as well. This entire environment is offered in order to free retreatants from worldly concerns so that they may open their hearts and minds to feel the healing power and loving presence of God.
While the heart of ministry at Mater Dolorosa is the preached Passionist retreat, many other groups whose identity is in harmony with the mission and goals of Mater Dolorosa are also invited to come and receive the benefits of this beautiful and prayerful facility.
We who minister here at Mater Dolorosa today know only too well that we stand on the shoulders of some great Passionists who lovingly and unselfishly have given their lives to preaching the Passion of Christ over the past 80 years. Following in their footsteps today, we also seek to heal, challenge, comfort, and enlighten. Our "charism," which is preaching the message of the suffering, death, and resurrection of the Lord, continues to touch the hearts of all who visit here. We hope that you, too, will come and experience for yourselves the wonder and the peace of Mater Dolorosa Passionist Retreat Center.
