A Report from the San Antonio Community of Passionist Partners
May 2009
We have a CPP meeting each month if we don’t have a major event that month. We divide the group into two and we alternate responsibilities with one group in charge of making a presentation and one in charge of food.
Present at our meeting today were: Tom and Gloria Uribe, Manolo and Lucy Razuri, Raul and Dora Flores and ourselves, Ricardo and Beatriz Riojas. Monolo began with a prayer, then Bea shared a Virgin of Guadalupe prayer and we read the Sunday readings. We used the format "Stories Converse: A Journey of Discipleship" and shared the insights that the readings and explanations gave us.
We also shared about President Obama’s address at Notre Dame.
Raul talked about the Board meeting; Raul, Manolo and Lucy will be going to another meeting in Detroit with the Eastern Province. We are planning a Mass and celebration on June 13th for Fr. Clemente’s 39th anniversary since his ordination.
Finally, we talked about the possibility of a retreat in Houston in October. Raul will make the contacts. We plan to invite those in formation; Raul will ask Fr. Joe Moons if there is a discount for Passionist Partners. We had a great barbecue meal with wine and ice cream that Tom Uribe made with peaches from his yard. Deacon Richard Salazar joined us for the meal.
Peace in Christ,
Ricardo A. Riojas
Study Day
On Saturday, March 28, the Community of Passionist Partners in San Antonio had a study with with Fr. Sebastian MacDonald, C.P. The topic for the day was Contemplative Prayer. Fr. Sebastian took the time to explore many as
pects of contemplative prayer as well as other types of prayer. He also described the place of prayer in the life of St. Paul of the Cross and his efforts to place prayer at the very heart of the life of all Passionists. His presentation led into a lively discussion of the personal prayer experiences of those who were at the study day. The day together was a rich experience of deepening both the understanding and experience of prayer in our lives.
Seder Supper
The San Antonio Community of Passionist Partners also gathered on Wednesday of Holy Week, April 8, to experience together the traditional Seder Supper. This has been a long-standing tradition for the San Antonio CPPs. This year the dinner was hosted by Carlos and Aurora Lopez and was led by Fr. Clemente Barron, C.P. who had just returned to San Antonio from Rome.
