Hands

In Praise of Hands

Thomas Chalmers says of the human hand, "It contains more evidence of divine purpose than that of the movement of a planet in its orbit." We can understand the Italian sculptor who, when his masterpiece was completed, held out his hand to heaven and said, "O God, I thank Thee for my hands."

The hand is surely a miracle of creation, servant of the mind, 25 joints, 50 distinct motions, and the most versatile instrument on earth.  Everything people make is made by their hands.  When all words fail, the touch of the hands expresses our love.

Let Hands Speak

Look at your hands, really see them, let them speak to you.  They may speak of self sacrificing service.  Your hands dress you, wash you, reach out to accept the blow, to break the fall, your hand feeds you.  The scars on your hands speak of happy days, of painful days.
