“A place where I can listen in new ways. I’ve spent most of my years in ministry within Passionist retreat centers! It’s a lucky assignment, for God is really there. I’m privileged to see the Lord working, often very dramatically, in the lives of those who come to make retreats. Paradoxically, I have to go somewhere else for my own retreats! My place is a bit too much like work; and there are many distractions. Like everyone who comes to our place, I need a place alone, apart, quiet, removed from my normal surroundings and distractions where I can listen in new ways to God. But I also find God in museums as I ponder great art and the mystery of being human, in music where the human creative streak expresses itself so well, in nature, among friends, and in ministry to those God calls me to serve.”
Fr. James Thoman, CP, 3.1.08
