Planned Giving Opportunities

Mater Dolorosa depends on gifts from friends and benefactors to help us maintain our grounds and facilities and to continue to provide the Passionist retreat programs. Charitable giving to Mater Dolorosa ensures the future of the Passionist Retreat Ministry in Sierra Madre.
There are many ways to remember Mater Dolorosa and you may be surprised to discover how inexpensive most of these are to accomplish. Here are several options to consider:

1. Make a charitable donation by writing a check to Mater Dolorosa.

2. Amend an existing insurance policy to add Mater Dolorosa as an additional beneficiary, or purchase a new policy for Mater Dolorosa.

3. Remember Mater Dolorosa in your will. With a gift of this nature, you retain full use of your assets during your lifetime. You may also change bequest provision in your will at any time. Bequests include anything you wish to designate, including cash, stocks, bonds, real estate, personal property, etc.

4. Name Mater Dolorosa as beneficiary, or contingent beneficiary, of your Retirement Account.

5. Consider a Living Revocable Trust - an instrument that can be used to direct payment of income from the trust to you during your lifetime and then to other named beneficiaries, such as your spouse, other family members or institutions. Trusts may also designate the disposition of the assets at the end of lifetime benefits, so once the lifetime beneficiaries are deceased, the assets pass to a designated beneficiary. With trusts, probate costs may be avoided, thereby allowing more of your assets to pass to your intended beneficiaries at the time of your death.

These options also offer the advantage of being revocable - that is they give you the flexibility needed to adjust to changing circumstances in your life. While we do not practice estate planning, we will be happy to refer you to a planned giving representative who will sit down with you and explain these or other options you may be considering. For your protection, they will urge you to check with your professional advisor before completing any planned gift. They are also available to meet with your advisor to assist in the process.
